paleocerebellum

n. a phylogenetically old part of the cerebellum, including most of the vermis (central area) and the cerebellar pyramids. It is involved in control of the muscles of the trunk and girdle. Also called spinocerebellum. Compare archicerebellum; neocerebellum. —paleocerebellar adj.
