ovulation

n. the production of a mature secondary oocyte (see oogenesis) and its release from a graafian follicle at the surface of the ovary. Rupture of the follicle causes the oocyte to be discharged into a fallopian tube. See also ovum.

linguist

n. a scholar who specializes in the study of linguistics or any of its branches. A linguist may focus on the characteristics of a specific language or group of languages or on certain features of human language in general. He or she will not necessarily have a command of multiple languages, the more precise term for such a person being a polyglot.
