NREM sleep

NREM sleep

nonrapid-eye-movement sleep: four sleep stages in which there is an absence of rapid eye movement (REM) and dreams are relatively uncommon (and usually cannot be recalled upon awakening). The increasing appearance of delta waves, particularly in stages 3 and 4, is another prominent index of NREM sleep. Also called non-REM sleep; synchronized sleep. Compare REM sleep.
