nonadherence

n. failure of an individual to follow a prescribed therapeutic regimen. Although nonadherence has traditionally been ascribed to oppositional behavior, it is more likely due to inadequate communication between the practitioner and the individual, physical or cognitive limitations that prevent the patient from following therapeutic recommendations (e.g., physical disabilities), or adverse effects that are not being adequately addressed. A primary aspect of health psychology involves methods of reducing nonadherence and increasing adherence. Also called noncompliance.

test marketing

research undertaken to assess consumer reactions to new or altered products. Companies often try to carry out this research discreetly so that competitors are unaware of any potential changes. On the basis of the results, products may be introduced into the general market, introduced after changes, or withdrawn.
