n. a naturally occurring hallucinogen derived from the plants Peganum harmala, native to the Middle East, and Banisteriopsis caapi, native to the South American tropics. Harmine is a potent monoamine oxidase inhibitor and is a principal ingredient in ayahuasca, a psychoactive beverage.
