neonatal drug dependency syndrome

a syndrome in which a baby is born with drug dependence due to the mother’s drug abuse (most often opioid abuse) during the latter part of pregnancy. Such babies are often of low birth weight. Other severe problems that accompany drug abuse by pregnant women include increased risk of intrauterine death, premature delivery, and increased neonatal mortality.
