Nelson–Denny Reading Test
a multiple-choice test of vocabulary, reading rate, and reading comprehension for high school and college students as well as adults. The vocabulary section consists of 80 one-sentence statements requiring participants to choose the proper meaning of a specific word used in that sentence from among four options. The reading rate and reading comprehension sections are combined; the former requires participants to read as much of a given narrative passage as possible within 1 minute, while the latter requires participants to answer questions about that same passage and six others. Originally developed in 1929, the Nelson–Denny Reading Test is in its fifth edition (published in 1993). [M. J. Nelson (1894–1970) and E. C. Denny (1887–1984), U.S. educators]
