navigation

n. the mechanisms used by an organism to find its way through the environment, such as to a migration site or its home site. A variety of navigational cues have been documented in nonhuman animals, including using the sun or stars as a compass (see sun compass) and responding to magnetic lines, olfactory cues, visual cues (e.g., rivers or coastlines), and wind-sheer effects from air masses crossing mountain ranges.
