myoelectric prothesis

an artificial limb (see prosthesis), such as a myoelectric arm, that can be manipulated by nerve impulses generated by voluntary muscle movements. The nerve impulses are received by an electronic transducer that amplifies and converts them into appropriate movements of the prosthesis through tiny electric motors.
