Müller cell

an elongated nonneuronal central nervous system cell (glia) that traverses and supports all the layers of the retina, collecting light and directing it toward the photoreceptors. A component of the inner nuclear layer, these cells were originally called Müller fibers because of their thin, stretched shape. [Heinrich Müller (1820–1864), German anatomist]
