Moro reflex

a reflex in which a newborn infant, when startled, throws out the arms, extends the fingers, and often quickly brings the arms back together as if clutching or embracing. In normal, healthy babies, the Moro reflex disappears during the 1st year. Also called Moro response. See also startle response. [Ernst Moro (1874–1951), German physician]
