Miller–Mowrer shuttle box

an apparatus for studying escape and avoidance learning. It consists of a straight alley with a guillotine door at its midpoint and a grid floor that can be electrified independently in each half. The experimental animal can avoid the aversive stimulus (an electric shock) by moving to the opposite end of the box but must do so within a given time. [Neal E. Miller and O. Hobart Mowrer]
