Mignon delusion

a variation of the family-romance fantasy in which children believe that their parents are actually foster parents and their real families are of distinguished lineage. The name is derived from the child character in the novel Wilhelm Meister’s Apprenticeship (1796) by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749–1832).
