the age of a fetus calculated from the beginning of the mother’s last menstruation. At full term, it is normally 280 days or 40 weeks—that is, usually 2 weeks longer than the gestational age.

slow-wave sleep

deep sleep that is characterized by increasing percentages of particular types of delta waves on the electroencephalogram, corresponding to Stages 3 and 4 of NREM sleep. See also sleep stages.
