masking pattern

the detection thresholds as a function of frequency for a pure-tone signal masked by a sound whose spectral characteristics and level are fixed. The y-axis may be either the level of the signal at threshold (in decibels sound-pressure level) or the amount of masking. Also called masked audiogram. See auditory masking.
