linguist

n. a scholar who specializes in the study of linguistics or any of its branches. A linguist may focus on the characteristics of a specific language or group of languages or on certain features of human language in general. He or she will not necessarily have a command of multiple languages, the more precise term for such a person being a polyglot.

divergent thinking

creative thinking in which an individual solves a problem or reaches a decision using strategies that deviate from commonly used or previously taught strategies. This term is often used synonymously with lateral thinking. Compare convergent thinking. [defined in 1967 by Joy Paul Guilford]
