libidinal types

in classical psychoanalytic theory, a personality classification based on the distribution of libido, or sexual energy, in the psyche. In the erotic type, the libido remains largely in the id and the main interest is in loving and being loved. In the obsessional type, the libido is largely invested in the superego and the individual is dominated by conscience. In the narcissistic type, the libido is primarily invested in the ego and the main interest is in self-preservation, with little concern for others or for the dictates of the superego. [devised by Sigmund Freud]
