Level I–Level II theory

the theory that cognitive abilities can be viewed as being arranged hierarchically at two different levels. The first level is of associative processing (exemplified by rote learning and short-term memory), the second of more conceptual processing (exemplified by categorization, abstraction, and reasoning).
