leadership labyrinth

a metaphor for the series of detours, dead ends, and unusual paths that women and members of minority groups encounter in many organizations and that serve as obstacles to reaching the highest positions of authority. For women, these obstacles include not only sex discrimination but also domestic responsibilities (see mommy track) and sometimes women’s own doubts and failure to believe in themselves. Compare glass ceiling. [proposed in 2007 by U.S. social psychologists Alice H. Eagly (1938–  ) and Linda L. Carli]
