kappa wave

a type of brain wave with a frequency similar to that of an alpha wave (8–12 Hz) but with a much weaker amplitude. Kappa waves are associated with thinking, particularly such activities as problem solving or recall of a partly learned task.

n. a relatively small region of the upper brainstem that connects the forebrain and hindbrain. It contains the tectum (and associated inferior and superior colliculi), tegmentum, and substantia nigra. Also called mesencephalon.
