J curve

a pattern on a graph that resembles the letter J: There is an initial drop in value for a short period of time followed by a continuous increase. For example, a high achieving person training for a difficult job might show a J curve for performance—his or her performance initially might drop below that of other employees while he or she learns difficult skills but rapidly increase to excellence after the required job skills are fully attained. Also called J-shaped distribution.
