aided recall
the process of remembering or attempting to remember something where a prompt is given to assist recall. Aided recall is used, for example, to assist an eyewitness or victim of a crime to retrieve memories relevant to the event or to assist consumers in remembering information contained in advertising, as a means of testing the effectiveness of a promotion. It can include the use of funnel interviews (in which the researcher starts with general questions and then moves on to specific ones) as well as multiple-choice tests. For example, the interviewer might ask members of the public if they remember seeing a particular advertisement. If they do, the interviewer will ask about specific aspects of the advertisement.
