invariance

n.

1. in the theory of ecological perception, any property of an object that remains constant despite changes in the point of observation or surrounding conditions.

2. the property of being unchanged by a transformation. For example, after adding a constant value to each of a set of scores on a test, the degrees of difference among the scores will demonstrate invariance, being the same for the original and transformed set. —invariant adj.
