internal capsule

internal capsule

a large band of nerve fibers in the corpus striatum (see basal ganglia) that extends between the caudate nucleus on its medial side and the globus pallidus and putamen on its lateral side. It contains afferent and efferent fibers from all parts of the cerebral cortex as they converge near the brainstem. See also external capsule; extreme capsule.
