interlocking reinforcement schedule

a schedule of intermittent reinforcement in which the requirements of one schedule change depending on progress in another schedule. For example, in an interlocking fixed-interval, fixed-ratio schedule, reinforcement is given after a fixed number of responses and a fixed time, but this could be changed so that the number of responses required for reinforcement decreases as the interval between responses and reinforcement increases.
