intergroup conflict

disagreement or confrontation between two or more groups and their members, such as between work departments, entire companies, political parties, or nations. This may involve interpersonal discord, psychological tension, or physical violence. In many social species, intergroup conflict is a major factor affecting group-level movement patterns and space use and ultimately in shaping the evolution of group living and complex sociality.
