injunctive norm

injunctive norm

any of various socially determined consensual standards (social norms) that describe how people should act, feel, and think in a given situation, irrespective of how people typically respond in the setting. Individuals who violate these standards are often judged negatively. Also called prescriptive norm. Compare descriptive norm.
