verb

n. a word or phrase used to describe an action, occurrence, or state, forming the essential part of the predicate of a sentence. The verb is also identifiable as the element of the sentence that marks temporality (tense), mood, voice (see active voice; passive voice), and number agreement with the subject. See also actional verb; auxiliary verb; causative verb.
