testwise error rate

testwise error rate

in a test involving multiple comparisons, the probability of making a Type I error on any specific test or comparison. Factorial designs allow for the possibility of performing many such individual contrasts, and the related family-wise error rate reflects the possibility of Type I error across the entire set of comparisons. Also called comparison-wise error rate; per-comparison error rate. See also experiment-wise error rate.
