test for equality of variance

test for equality of variance

any procedure used to test for homogeneity of variance. The assumption that the variances in the populations sampled are substantially equal is basic to many statistical procedures. If this assumption is violated, it may be necessary to transform the data or use nonparametric tests. Also called test of homogeneity.
