spike

n.

1. in behavioral neuroscience, a train of electrical signals recorded from an individual neuron in the brain. Spikes are the action potentials or signals generated by neurons to communicate with one another.

2. in a time-series analysis, a point in time at which there is a sharp increase followed by a rapid decrease in measurements on the dependent variable.
