pregnancy

n. the state of a woman who is carrying a developing embryo or fetus, which normally lasts about 266 days from conception until the birth of the baby (see prenatal period). Embryonic development normally occurs within the uterus, but occasionally it may be extrauterine (see ectopic pregnancy). Also called fetation; gravidity. See also adolescent pregnancy; pseudocyesis.
