postganglionic autonomic neuron

any neuron of the sympathetic nervous system whose cell body lies in a ganglion of the sympathetic chain. Such neurons innervate certain target organs, such as the kidneys, ovaries, and salivary glands. Compare preganglionic autonomic neuron.
