pepsinogen

pepsinogen

n. the precursor of pepsin, a proteolytic enzyme necessary for the breakdown of proteins. It is secreted by the gastric glands of the stomach and is converted to pepsin in the presence of gastric acid, also secreted by glands of the stomach.
