neuroticism

n.

1. the state of being neurotic or a proneness to neurosis.

2. a mild condition of neurosis.

3. one of the dimensions of the five-factor personality model and the Big Five personality model, characterized by a chronic level of emotional instability and proneness to psychological distress.

4. in Eysenck’s dimensions, one of three major dimensions, the others being extraversion and psychoticism. See also factor theory of personality.
