neurodegenerative disease

any disease characterized by progressive nervous system dysfunction and loss of neural tissue. Alzheimer’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease are all examples of neurodegenerative diseases. Also called neurodegenerative disorder.
