medial geniculate nucleus

medial geniculate nucleus

either of a pair of nuclei in the thalamus, toward the middle of the lateral geniculate nucleus, that receive, process, and relay auditory information. Each receives input from the inferior colliculus and sends output to the auditory cortex. Also called medial geniculate body.
