homozygous

adj. possessing identical forms of a gene (i.e., identical alleles) at a given genetic locus on each of a pair of homologous chromosomes. Either autosomal dominant (see dominant allele) or autosomal recessive (see recessive allele) conditions are expressed when the individual is homozygous for that condition. Compare heterozygous. —homozygote n.
