fusiform gyrus

fusiform gyrus

a spindle-shaped ridge on the inferior (lower) surface of each temporal lobe in the brain. It lies between the inferior temporal gyrus and the parahippocampal gyrus and is involved in high-level visual processing. The fusiform face area (FFA), for example, is believed to specialize in face recognition. See also occipital lobe.
