continental philosophy

continental philosophy

a loose designation for philosophical developments originating in continental Europe from the middle of the 20th century, encompassing such movements as phenomenology, existentialism, structuralism, and deconstruction. Continental philosophy is often contrasted with the Anglo-American tradition of analytic philosophy.
