n.

1. confinement to a mental institution by court order following certification by appropriate mental health authorities. The process may be voluntary but is generally involuntary. See certification laws. See also civil commitment; criminal commitment.

2. obligation or devotion to a person, relationship, task, cause, or other entity or action.
