blastula

blastula

n. a roughly spherical group of cells formed by division of the fertilized egg (zygote) during the early stages of embryonic development. It consists of a single layer of cells (the blastoderm) surrounding a fluid-filled cavity (the blastocele). In mammals, the blastula is called a blastocyst.
