blastocyst

n. the mammalian embryo at a very early stage of development. It consists of a tiny hollow sphere containing an inner cell mass, enclosed in a thin layer of cells that help implant the blastocyst in the uterine lining. Blastocyst formation in humans generally occurs on the 5th or 6th day following fertilization.
