affective–cognitive consistency

affective–cognitive consistency

the degree to which the affective and cognitive bases of an attitude are evaluatively consistent with one another. For example, if the affective basis is extremely positive and the cognitive basis is extremely negative, affective–cognitive consistency is low. See also affective–evaluative consistency; cognitive–evaluative consistency.
