point biserial correlation coefficient

(symbol: r_pbis; r_pb) a numerical index reflecting the degree of relationship between two random variables, one continuous and one dichotomous (binary). An example is the association between the propensity to experience an emotion (measured using a scale) and gender (male or female). Also called point biserial; point biserial r.
