illusory conjunction

the attribution of a characteristic of one stimulus to another stimulus when the stimuli are presented only briefly. Illusory conjunctions are most common with visual stimuli when, for example, the color of one form can be attributed to a different form. However, illusory conjunctions can also occur for other sensory stimuli.
