adj. describing or relating to the drowsy state that occurs in the transition from wakefulness to sleep. A transient, dreamlike image experienced while falling asleep is called a hypnagogic hallucination. Compare hypnopompic.

alternating perspective

the abrupt transition from one perspective to another that occurs when an ambiguous figure is viewed. Only one perspective can be perceived at a given time. See Necker cube; reversible figure; Rubin’s figure.
