hypermotility
n. abnormally increased or excessive activity or movement, particularly in the digestive tract. The cholinergic nervous system dominates the upper portion of the gastrointestinal tract, whereas the adrenergic system controls the lower portion. Gastrin and serotonin stimulate digestive-tract motility, whereas secretin and glucagon inhibit contractions. Hypermotility is associated with gastric neuropathy, colitis, and irritable bowel syndrome.
