hypercomplex cell

a neuron in the visual cortex for which the optimal stimulus is a moving line of specific length or a moving corner. See also end-stopped cell. [first described in 1965 by U.S. neurophysiologist David Hubel (1926–2013) and Swedish neurophysiologist Torsten Wiesel (1924–  )]
