hsieh-ping

n. a culture-bound syndrome observed in China and Taiwan, characterized by temporary trancelike states in which the individual supposedly becomes possessed by ancestral spirits. It is often accompanied by tremors, disorientation, delirium, and visual or auditory hallucinations.
